Ohira Susumu who seeks light and time through art holds his solo exhibition.
Ohira Susumu one of featured artists by TRiCERA holds his solo exhibition at Gallery Hinoki where located in Kyobashi, Tokyo, Japan. Although he turned seventy years old in this year, he never loses his passion and everlasting energy for creation which is the key power of being artist.
This exhibition, Ohira Susumu’s solo exhibition become a circumstantial evidence of his creative energy. Ohira Susumu was born in 1949, Yamaguchi Prefecture and currently based in Japan and France.
An impression of his work is somehow stylish as if it is made by a young artist. He depicts scenes from daily life faintly, so his work becomes something in between abstract and figurative painting.
Moreover, one of distinguishing feature of his work is floating circles. In his work, he paints lots of circles while depicting scenery. Through a circle, he visualizes ‘Time’ which is abstract concept and he expresses it by painting circles with different size and colors. For Susumu, he thinks that his art is a work which seeks light and time.
In this exhibition, he presents not only his paintings but also his new works. Even though he has been painting acrylic for a long time, he currently expanded his field from acrylic painting to mixed media work using photography. Cracking on the photography are all covered up by gold lines and also transparent circles are come up.
Some of works are based on same scene, but expressed differently by materials one is expressed as painting and the other expressed as a photography work. By these works, audience can enjoy different senses changing by different materials.
Not only in Japan but also in overseas, Ohira has been keep participating exhibitions for two or three times a year. Even though this vigorous activity, he says that he never satisfies and wants to have more exhibitions in abroad than current frequency. Although his age is seventy years old now with his long career as an artist, his energy for creation is still powerful. Perhaps, the reason why his sense of work never get old is due to his endless passion, endeavor to create art work.
