One more interesting feature about this exhibition is not only aiming to discover hidden artists but also thinking to develop Marunouchi as Art-friendly neighborhood.

The exhibition is held at the Gyoko Chika Gallery, Kokusai Building, Shin-Tokyo Building, Shin-Marunouchi Building, Otemachi Naka-dori with Marunouchi area as the center.

Marunouchi where is a center of Tokyo, surrounded by skyscrapers, becomes a stage for young artists and also urbanites who normally hard to enjoy contemporary art can easily access and enjoy the exhibition due to the gallery’s location. The Gyoko Chika Gallery was built on underground pedestrian road linking to Tokyo station. After knowing its special location, the reason why the name of award became ‘Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi’ not just ‘Art Award Tokyo’.

As a result, for 13th years the exhibition has become a link between young talented artists, urbanites, and town development. For this reason, I could see a value inside, not just focusing on renowned art award which roles a window as showing a trend of Japanese contemporary art.

The nominated art works are 25works in total which was exhibited in Marunouchi, Tokyo. The artists are from those Universities and Graduate Schools below. Tokyo University of the Arts, Tama Art University, Musashino Art University, Tokyo Zokei University, Joshibi University of Art and Design, Kyoto University of Art & Design, Nagoya University of the Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts, Tohoku University of Art and Design. Art works also in varied genre such as painting, sculpture, photography, printing, and installation.

Thinking of its value for artists, audiences, and a town, every upcoming year’s Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi will be looked forward to everyone, as a representative Japanese contemporary Art award.
