‘Meteon’ is in session from 29th May to 29th June. Akamatsu Nelo, the artist who works and based is in Kanagawa, presents his works at Mizuma Art Gallery at Ichigayatamachi, Tokyo.
Akamatsu who works mostly with effect of geomagnetism; a natural phenomenon which is hard to be caught with our eyes. However, to show this invisible phenomenon, he uses his own methodology on his work.
By materializing natural phenomenon, his work becomes visual, sound, time and experience-centered work; a phenomenological experience.
Akamatsu presents two new works in the exhibition: ‘Meteon’ which uses the principle of heat vaporization, and an installation work ‘Chijikigumo’ which is fluidly rotated by the presence of geomagnetism.
According to the statement from Akamatsu Nelo and Mizuma Art Gallery, recent research has shown that humans have the potential to sense magnetism as their sixth sense. Akamatsu has been incorporating this theme of ‘Geomagnetism’ into his works.

Even though, his works are about the principle of heat vaporization, and visualization of the effects of geomagnetism, he wants people to feel freely about the works and exhibition with their senses. We might not know what our sixth sense exactly is, but sometimes feel some phenomenon instinctively and we want to define it as a six sense. Akamatsu doesn’t force people to the theme that he deals with.
Akamatsu’s automatically-moving installation work operates while making subtle sounds. This stimulating work for the human senses, such as eyes and ears, keep us awake. Whether you can feel the natural phenomenon that Akamatsu explores or not, it is worth to have an experience of ‘being waken by senses’ which is hard to feel these days from a hectic life.
